WMG is a non-profit art gallery with the primary goal to spread the work of female artists through exhibitions, professional development, and public programs. They support women artists of color, LGBT+ artists, transgender artists and have also had exhibitions open to men as well. This gallery is open to the public, and shows artwork from various topics outside of feminism such as spirituality, family issues, the environment and history.
This gallery has hosted over 8,0000 female artists since 1992, supporting new and returning artists as a tax-exempt organization with a board of directors made entirely of diverse women. By visiting Woman Made Gallery, you are supporting a space that is made to uplift voices that are otherwise ignored or excluded from mainstream places due to institutionalized sexism, racism or other forms of bigotry.Visiting museums such as ours allows for students to digest complex social issues through visual culture which promotes personalized research and educating students on important issues that affect them. Experiencing artwork that is civically engaging, up close and personal makes a lasting impact on students as they are able to see all the details, textures, colors and size and establish a physical connection with the artwork- as large pieces can feel overwhelming when seen in real life. Seeing art on a screen versus real life makes students more engaged and excited as they get be present with the piece as it is meant to be experienced. |
