Overall Lesson Objective: Given a self-portrait photograph, Photopea, HB pencil, sketchbook paper, straight edge/ruler, kneaded eraser, Drawing tutorial videos on shading, PowerPoint presentations, and demonstrations on shading and drawing using a grid, students will accurately create a pencil/graphite cropped portrait of themselves featuring one eye and another facial feature.
In my Drawing 1 placement, my cooperating teacher started a partial self-portrait project, and using the grid method. In terms of lessons, I was working towards students developing their shading, observational accuracy and following the curves and contours of a human face. In hindsight, taking on this project so early in the semester for students was a bit overwhelming and if I were to teach this again, I would put in smaller projects or exercises in between the portrait to better support students. I did multiple demonstrations of shading, showing different examples and showing students how to find and feel around the contours of their face. |

Overall Lesson Objective: Given colored pencils, camera device, presentations on still lifes and color theory, 3-5 objects of choice, and sketch paper, students will arrange their own still lifes created out of objects that hold personal meaning to them and will sufficiently use color theory and observational skills in order accurately draw a still life with proper proportions and close to exact color matching.
A project that I began with my Drawing 1 students before I left my placement was a colored pencil still life project. In this project that I designed, students were going to be creating a still life of objects that are meaningful or important to them, and exploring layering colors and using colored pencils as the main medium. I was able to introduce the concept of a still life, talk about composition with taking photographs, layering color and working on contour line drawing exercises to better understand observational drawing. By the time I was leaving my placement, students were working on their sketches and still lives. |
